Halal Certification The Department of Islamic Development, Malaysia (JAKIM) is the sole authority in Malaysia responsible for setting policies and standards in respect of the issuance of halal certificate to ALL food and consumer products manufactured in Malaysia, either for local or export market. Halal certificate is issued under the following categories: Food & beverages and consumer products Food premises/eating outlets Abattoirs/slaughter houses
Briefly, the parties whom are eligible to apply for Halal certificate are: Jakim does not issue Halal certificate or logo for products which are manufactured outside Malaysia irrespective of whether such products are marketed within or outside Malaysia. However, JAKIM recognizes other Halal certifications from various local Islamic bodies of the countries in which such products are originally manufactured.
